Surrealism explained

A cultural movement that started in the early 1920s and is best known for the paintings and writings of the people who were part of it. Many Surrealist artists and writers see their work as an expression of the philosophical movement first and foremost and as an artifact second.

The works have elements of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions, and non sequitur. Leader André Breton was explicit in his assertion that Surrealism was above all a revolutionary movement.
