An ideology based on the idea that people should be able to work together to control the means of power and, by extension, the means of production. Socialism had its origins in the ideals of the Enlightenment, during the Industrial Age, amid yearnings for a more egalitarian society. Even though the real meaning of socialism has changed over time, it still has a lot to do with building a society without classes by creating an organized working class through revolution or social evolution. Since then, socialist ideas have become more and more focused on social changes in modern democracies.
