Neo-Confucianism explained

During the Song dynasty, when Taoism and Buddhism were the most popular religions, a form of Confucianism grew up as a reaction to these two religions. Neo-Confucians like Zhu Xi saw that Confucianism didn’t have a complete metaphysical system, so they put together one based on Confucian ideas. Within the Neo-Confucian community, there were many different points of view. Still, in the end, a design came about that was similar to both Buddhist and Taoist ideas of the time.
