People think that their thoughts and actions don’t matter and can’t change what happens because what will happen will happen. One old argument, called the “idle argument,” went like this: “If it is fated for you to get better from your illness, then you will get better whether you call a doctor or not. If it is fated for you not to get better, then you won’t get better even if you call a doctor.
