Astrology is about you and how your inner character will guide you through discovering who you indeed are, what you potentially can become, and what you need to be doing in this life. Many guides mainly focus on astrology for beginners. I had a hard time getting around the primary subject.
Astrology tends to branch into different subcategories, which I was unfamiliar with personally. Therefore, I wanted to write a beginner’s guide on astrology, planetary influences, and the various houses to cover the basics. If you are a beginner in astrology or want to refresh your memory, this no-nonsense guide is definitely for you. Check out the table of contents, too, for easy navigation.
Believe it or not, I did not believe in astrology at first. It is not scientifically proven, and there are no good experiments with proven results. But, many people value it and claim it to be very accurate. And to be honest, I experienced some values as well. That became a trigger for my intrinsic motivation to dive deeper into this subject. One crucial aspect is those yearly predictions based on Vedic astrology are more precise and reliable than those based on western astrology.
Your secret backdoor on astrology for beginners
There are a lot of different branches within astrology and horoscopes that tend to be more distractive than valuable. That is why you are one of the lucky ones to stumble upon this free guide. See it as a backdoor into the knowledge that would save you precious time.
There are a few things that are really important. I studied astrology extensively for over three weeks now and I discovered certain patterns and information that are widely used that could skyrocket your research journey. So, obtaining the astrology for beginners knowledge I am about to share will definitely lay a proper foundation for you.
Planetary influences and symbols
When you dive deeper into astrology – especially astrology for beginners – you will come across the different planets and their meanings. Each planet has a different influence on us. Celestial bodies – which include any natural body outside of the Earth’s atmosphere – have a substantial impact on our daily lives. For instance, not only our feelings, circumstances, and traits but also our circumstances, wealth, success, pain, and marriage. These can all be impacted by the movement of the planets.
Marisa LaBlue talks about the meaning of Astrology Planets. In the video, she explains how the planet’s energy influences you—knowing that Marisa explains that the worlds play a massive role in our daily lives and influence long-term goals.
She discusses astrology planets’ meaning. Therefore, you will understand the energy of the planets, the different astrology houses, and how the zodiac signs correlate with them. Knowing Zodiac signs and their worlds is part of astrology for beginners to better understand what your life holds.
Influences of the different planets
There are ten different significant planets. In this astrology for beginners guide, we will dive deeper into their influences, origin, and what it represents. So, let us dive deeper into the effects of the different planets before we discuss the other Zodiac signs.
Everyone has an outer planet based on one’s different Zodiac sign. But, all planets have certain aspects that can influence you profoundly. For instance, Venus is powerful for Libra and Taurus, especially in giving and receiving pleasure, but it also has a different effect on each Zodiac sign. I find this very interesting, but you might be skeptical – I have got my eyes on you, Mr. Capricorn.
The Earth is used as the point of reference in astrology and is therefore excluded by astrologers. But, in the book ‘Earth Rise The Case for Studying and Using Earth in Astrology’, Cynthia suggested that the Earth should be added to the study of horoscopes. This book gained a lot of positive feedback. Especially because it is a more ‘out of the box’ vision of astrology.
Sun (Leo)
The Sun has always been an important aspect. Although the Sun is not considered a planet, astrology does conclude the Sun is one. Back in the day, the Sun was even worshipped. India still has many festivals concerning the Sun every year. The people in India have been paying homage to the Sun God. After all, the Sun is the lifeline of the world. The Sun – the giver of all life – expresses our conscious mind in astrology. It signifies our will to live and our creative life energy.
Moon (Cancer)
The Moon rules over cancer and it signifies a person’s deepest needs, the unconscious, one’s reaction, and basic habits. The Moon orbits around the Sun. You can picture this as a protective manner. it reflects the light of the Sun. When we look at our chart, the Moon shows how we protect ourselves. It aids in the understanding of feeling safe, secure, and comfortable.
Mercury (Virgo)
When we look at Mercury in a mythological way, we see that Mercury is the messenger of the gods. In an astrological sense, Mercury represents Water. Thus, it symbolizes intelligence, communication, and beauty. A concept called ‘Mercury Energy’ also determines how one makes sense of the world.
Someone with Mercury retrograde in the birth chart may have a reflective or introverted mind. A more in-depth guide on this is visible on the DISC model. It includes speech patterns and communication style, one’s quickness of thought, and – remarkably – one’s sense of humor.
Venus (Libra & Taurus)
Venus reigns over one’s personal taste, aesthetics, love, and adoration. Venus also exemplifies one’s materialistic values- materialistic possessions – and finances. It orbits majorly around love-making. Giving and receiving pleasure is the power of Venus.
Venus may be indulgent, but it isn’t deceitful.

Looking deeper into the birth chart of Venus, we can see the way one approaches a relationship from the heart – as well as what gives us pleasure. For instance, Libra enjoys giving and receiving pleasure over everything else. However, Cancer values security in relationships more. On the other hand, Aries is all about the thrill of conquest.
Mars (Aries & Scorpio)
Mars – also known as ‘Mangal’ – is the god of war. This planet is the ruler over Aries. Not only does Mars rule over the animal instincts for anger, aggression, and survival, but it is also responsible for one’s sexual desires. For instance, how one feels anger and how it expresses it. Mars also has a negative side: bold, impulsive, impatient, threatening, and forceful.
Jupiter (Sagittarius & Pisces)
Jupiter amplifies the aspects around wealth, progress, and destiny. From a more Astrological view, this planet is associated with expansion, growth, healing, success, good fortune, and miracles. Furthermore, it governs long-distance and international travel, massive businesses, and assets in the form of wealth. Jupiter also focuses on higher education, the law, and religion. All this could be valuable information if you are a beginner in astrology.
Saturn (Capricorn)
Saturn is considered a malefic planet, but it is also about adulthood, responsibility, accountability, discipline, and control. It is also considered to be the planet of karma. Saturn also holds a unique phenomenon: the ‘Saturn Return’. The planet Saturn returns to its orbit which is filled at the time of birth, a person crosses over a significant threshold and enters the next stage of life.
With the first Saturn return, a person leaves youth behind and enters adulthood. With the second return, maturity. You can read more about this in this article about Saturn’s return. It is named a return because it takes approximately 29 years for Saturn to do one complete orbit around the Sun.
Uranus (Aquarius)
This is because big and unusual events usually match the planet’s doing. Furthermore, it relates to the genius streak of the mind. Uranus is considered eccentric, rebellious, and reformative, and it is – because of the planet’s doing – about unpredictable changes. It’s the planet of breakthroughs and those triggering events you don’t expect. And as the higher octave of Mercury, it relates to the genius streak of the mind.
Neptune (Pisces)
Neptune dominates spirituality and all of the small and subtle things. If we look at Neptune from an astrology perspective, this planet is recognized as the source of inspiration, dreams, illusion, and uncertainty. A youthful – but also naive – spirit characterizes the ones with a strong position of Neptune in their birth chart.
Pluto (Scorpio)
Pluto was the last planet discovered in our solar system in 1930. Looking at Pluto from an astrological perspective, the planer shows the area of life. Especially where one will face the intense powers of either destruction or creation. The planet Pluto also symbolizes a transformative rebirth and regeneration. Therefore, Pluto also signifies death, virus, kidnapping, intimidation, and obsession. These are generally some of the characteristics correlated with Pluto.
What is a Zodiac sign?
You may already have seen the different zodiac signs assigned to each planet in the previous section. Some planets cover more zodiac signs. There are ten other planets, with the Earth excluded and 12 different Zodiac signs. The zodiac is a diagram mainly used by astrologers to represent the positions of the planets and stars.
12 Different Zodiac Signs
Since we cover astrology for beginners, this subject can’t be excluded. Still, I found it more convenient to move it to a different article covering these Zodiac signs more in-depth. This article also covers the other unique personality traits. The 12 Zodiac signs are:

- Taurus (April 20 ⇢ May 20)

Cusps in Astrology Explained
Cusps in astrology are an imaginary line separating a pair of connected signs in the zodiac or the houses regarding the horoscope. Cusp is Latin for point or spear. Some astrologists claim that there is not a thing like a cusp sign. They state that one can be on the ‘cusp’ of a given sign, but that doesn’t say that one inherits those traits due to blending the signs.
I am not quite sure about this concept, but I found it essential to share. Cusps state that one is born right on, or near, the time the sun passes from one sign to the next. That means that you were born between characters.
Meaning of the Astrological houses
When you dive deeper into astrology for beginners, it becomes evident that the 12 houses of astrology cannot be left out. These 12 houses represent every single aspect of human life. When you look up what astrological houses are, you quickly find that the houses are like divisions of the ecliptic plane.
The 12 Houses of the Zodiac listed
To put it simply, it is like a large circle containing the Sun’s orbit, as seen from the earth. Every box on that division includes an aspect of human behavior of life. I added a table to make things more clear and easier to navigatable down below. You can read an in-depth guide on astrological houses in this article.

In the video below, the YouTuber, ‘Itsbabyj1′, explains the twelve different houses more in-depth based on astrology for beginners. She takes celebrity birth charts as an example to make sure it is practical, which is precisely what I prefer. This can be seen around 5:24. After that, she will cover the different planets’ bases to make them understandable. She does this around 8:44.
Birthchart Explained
An astrology birth chart is like a map or a diagram that portrays the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets, astrological aspects, and sensitive angles. For instance, at the moment of a person’s birth. You can generate one here for free. The birth chart is also known as a ‘natal chart.’ There are certain essential aspects you need to know to decode your birth chart properly. Reading this chart can give you insights into your strengths and weaknesses, your opportunities for soul growth, and the best timing for your most important moves.
Reading a Birth chart
When you are just starting astrology for beginners, you might end up feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the different aspects. The birth chart or Natal chart is nested in the roots of a horoscope.
I have created another article where I go through the process – without ever doing it before – of how you can read and interpret your own natal chart.
Most accurate horoscope
When we dive deeper into astrology for beginners, we come across a ‘horoscope.’ A horoscope for the day, week, or sometimes even month is comparable to a weather forecast, but on a more cosmic level. It could tell you what events could occur in your daily life. Let’s dive deeper into that.
Daily Horoscope
The daily horoscope is comparable with the weather forecast – as stated above. A daily horoscope is usually very short. It includes obstacles in your day or luck that you may encounter. Here to read your daily horoscope.
Weekly Horoscope
A weekly horoscope is usually more extensive than a daily horoscope. It focuses more on your planet and your astrology house. It is essential to realize that your weekly horoscope may differ significantly from the days. A week does not have to start on Monday till Sunday. I can start on Thursday and end on Wednesday. You can see your weekly horoscope here.
Monthly Horoscope
Last but not least is the monthly horoscope. You can go to the following website for a detailed overview of your monthly horoscope. The monthly horoscope works the same way as the weekly horoscope, but it is more extensive compared to the weekly one. It can be an exciting experiment for you to check all three horoscopes and see their differences.
